Sustainable reusable system for the catering industry – Sedullat GmbH from Solingen offers sustainable solution to avoid disposable packaging
The wholesaler of non-food for the catering industry, Sedullat GmbH offers from 01 May 2021 with the brand DishCircle a contemporary and climate-friendly reusable solution to avoid packaging waste in the to-go area. The range of applications for DishCircle containers covers the entire catering sector, from restaurants and company canteens to hospitals and the German armed forces. In cooperation with restaurateurs, a reusable concept was developed that is tailored to different needs and complies with the sustainable specifications of the circular economy. Production, distribution and recycling take place entirely in Solingen, which leads to a shortening of transport routes and thus to a reduction in Co2 emissions.
New packaging law from 2023
From 2023, a new packaging law will oblige restaurateurs in Germany to offer their customers reusable containers as well as disposable ones. Especially during the Corona crisis, the amount of disposable packaging has demonstrably increased. Due to the closure of many canteens and company restaurants and the widespread home office situation, catering businesses are currently only able to deliver in out-of-home mode. Disposable packaging is used for the most part.
Already existing reusable concepts are mostly offered at the expense of the restaurateurs. The goal of the DishCircle system is to ensure that costs incurred as a result of the new legislation are shared equally among all stakeholders. Therefore, for example, no monthly participation or marketing fees are charged.
For a deposit of five euros, restaurateurs hand out the non-toxic DishCircle containers to guests filled with food, which can be reused up to 500 times after use and cleaning. Discarded goods are subsequently collected by Sedullat GmbH and returned to the manufacturer, who uses the granulate from the shredded goods to produce new containers.
Support of the Solingen business development
Currently, the Solingen Economic Development Corporation has pledged its support for the DishCircle concept. In addition, there is great interest at the municipal level in introducing the reusable system.
